Analyzed how language standards can affect people negatively and/or positively 5 I was able to examine how language standards can affect people negatively through the reading in class, such as in Tan, Young, Marshall, and both of my writings: Synthesis Essay and LLN. 2 Explore and analyze, in writing and reading, a variety of genres and rhetorical situations. Ability to recognize readings and in writing through many genres and audiences. 5 An example in which I was able to recognize and analyze many genres and audiences was in the Young Reading, and I was able to illustrate the difference between the LLN and Synthesis essay. 3 Develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing. Utilizing new techniques such as collaborating for drafting and editing texts. 5 This was shown through many peer reviews and the 1-1 meeting I had with my professor. They were especially shown through the progress of my LLN and how it has changed throughout revisions. 4 Recognize and practice key rhetorical terms and strategies when engaged in writing situations. Utilize and understand rhetorical terms (description, symbolism, all elements of the rhetorical triangle: audience, purpose) in your own writing. 5 I was able to tailor my writing for a specific audience and make sure it had a purpose backed up by evidence. This is mainly illustrated in my Synthesis essay and in the triangle worksheet. Tan used techniques for their audience based on their mother’s dialect. 5 Understand and use print and digital technologies to address a range of audiences. Being able to incorporate digital media to tailor your writing to a broad range of audiences. 5 For my translation 1 and translation 2, I made a video and poster to tailor my writing to a specific audience. In addition to this, my synthesis essay incorporated graphs and statistics for my audience. 6 Locate research sources (including academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles) in the library’s databases or archives and on the Internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias. Effectively use schools CUNY library databases and internet websites for reliable sources. 5 For my synthesis essay, I had 6 articles and websites that I used from the CUNY library database and scholarly websites that are credible and reliable for my writing. 7 Compose texts that integrate a stance with appropriate sources, using strategies such as summary, analysis, synthesis, and argumentation. Writing a thesis that is supported by evidence from credible sources and analysis from sources. 5 In the reading Hus and for my synthesis essay, there was a reference to other reliable sources. Whether they were primary or statistical, they backed up the argument being made by the author. 8 Practice systematic application of citation conventions. Cite accurately and with standard in-text citation. 5 When citing in my synthesis essay, I made sure to refer back to the previous citation worksheet from class to try to ensure an accurate citation.
